In addition to completing the specific prerequisites included in the descriptions of the following courses, all students seeking to enroll in 300- or 400-level courses in the College of Commerce and Business Administration must have attained junior standing, which is defined for purposes of this policy as having earned 55 semester hours.

All C&BA students must, prior to seeking to enroll in any 300- or 400-level C&BA course, complete or be enrolled in the following prerequisites: EC 110 and EC 111; MATH 112 and MATH 121, or MATH 115 and MATH 125; CS 102; AC 210; ST 260; and LGS 200 (or their equivalents). Failure to fulfill all prerequisites prior to enrolling in a 300- or 400-level C&BA course will result in administrative disenrollment from that course.

IM 300 Introduction to Production Management. Three hours.

Prerequisite: ST 260.

This course is an introduction to production and operations management (POM). It includes the design, operation, and continuous improvement of the systems that create a firm's major products or services. The course focuses on a firm's primary reason for existence; POM is critical to the success of all organizations. Production and operations management tools and principles, such as product design, aggregate planning, and inventory management, as well as statistical analysis techniques such as total quality management, quality control, forecasting, smoothing techniques, multiple regression, and times series decomposition, that are critical to the success of any business in a competitive marketplace will be examined. The computer is used extensively throughout the course.

IM 320 Production Design and Measurement. Three hours.

Prerequisite: IM 300.

The design and location of production and service systems. Attention is given to process analysis, motion study, time study, and synthetically established standards.

IM 321 Production Planning and Control. Three hours.

Prerequisite: IM 300.

The planning and control of production and service systems. Attention is given to forecasting, operations planning, materials management, and operations control.

IM 420 Computer Simulation. Three hours.

Prerequisite: CS 102.

Development and use of systems models for simulating administrative decision-making processes.

IM 422 Scheduling. Three hours.

Prerequisite: IM 321.

Study of project scheduling in continuous job shop and project management environments.

IM 423 Inventory Management. Three hours.

Prerequisite: IM 321.

Control techniques for the large multi-item inventories frequently associated with manufacturing supply and wholesale-retail operations. The limitations and usefulness of models in actual practice.

IM 491 Independent Study in Industrial Management. Three hours.

Students may earn degree credit for only one independent study course (491).

IM 492 Internship in Industrial Management. Three hours.

Prerequisites: Junior or senior standing and a grade point average of 2.5 or higher. Students may earn degree credit for only one internship (492).

Students are selected through a competitive process for assignments in approved business or public sector organizations. The internship is administered through the C&BA Office of Student Services.

IM 497 Special Topics. Three hours.
