HHE 171 Introduction to Health Education. Three hours.

The course examines the role of school and community health education and includes an orientation to the profession and consideration of current trends, problems, and issues in health education. Offered fall semester.

HHE 270 Personal Health. Three hours.

Discussion and laboratory experience in individual health problems. Open to elementary education majors. Offered in summer school.

HHE 272 First Aid, Safety, and CPR. Two hours.

Prerequisite: At least sophomore standing.

Discussion and practice of safety and first aid, including cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Open to elementary education majors. Offered in summer school.

HHE 273 Community Health. Three hours.

Methods and techniques by which community health workers identify and measure the scope and intensity of health problems. Not offered in summer school.

HHE 371 School Health Programs. Three hours.

A lecture/demonstration/discussion course designed to help teachers develop competencies in comprehensive school health education.

HHE 374 Health Instruction. Three hours.

Prerequisites: HHE 270 and admission to the teacher education program.

Methods and media essential to effective instruction in health at the elementary and secondary levels. Not offered in summer school.

HHE 375 Health Education in the Elementary School. Three hours.

Health content, methods, materials, and strategies for early childhood and elementary education majors; includes the health education curriculum.

HHE 377 Current Issues in Health — Consumer and Environmental. Three hours.

Study and analysis of two contemporary topics in health education: consumer health and environmental health. Physiological, sociological, behavioral, regulatory, and economic variables are examined.

HHE 378 Drug Awareness/Education. Three hours.

Introduction to topics associated with drug-taking behavior, emphasizing drug education. Physiological, psychological, and sociological aspects of drug-taking behavior are examined. Offered fall semester.

HHE 440 Stress Management. Three hours.

An examination of the psychophysiology of the stress response and indicators of excessive stress. Stress management techniques are examined and taught.

HHE 467 Design and Evaluation of Health Promotion Programs. Three hours.

Prerequisite: HHE 171.

Designed to help health educators develop competencies in program design, implementation, and evaluation.

HHE 468 Practical Applications in Health Communications and Health Promotion. Three hours.

Prerequisite: HHE 171.

A lecture/demonstration/discussion course designed to help health educators develop competencies in program applications, with particular attention to the needs assessment process and health communication techniques.

HHE 475 Human Sexuality/Sex Education. Three hours.

Current scientific knowledge of physiological, sociological, and psychological factors influencing sexual development and relations. Emphasis is given to the role of formal and informal education in sexual development.

HHE 488 Internship in Community Health. One to twelve hours.

Directed internship in a community health agency, business, clinic, or other health-related setting; observation and on-the-job experience through direct participation.

HHE 495 Workshop in Health Education. Three hours.

Short-term, concentrated course focusing on selected aspects of health education. Usually offered in summer school.

HHE 496 Independent Study in Health Education. One to three hours.

HHE 497 Internship in Health Education. One to twelve hours.
