DEGREES AND PROGRAMS OFFERED

The College of Education offers undergraduate programs leading to the bachelor of science in education degree in the following teacher education programs:

• Elementary education (K--6)
• Foreign language (P--12), with concentrations in French, German, and Spanish
• Music education (P--12)
• Physical education (P--12)
• Secondary/high-school education (6-12), with majors in English language arts (comprehensive), French, German, mathematics (comprehensive), science (comprehensive), social science (comprehensive), and Spanish
• Special education, with P--6 and 6-12 concentrations in collaborative education and Birth-8 years concentrations in early childhood special education

Concentrations leading to the baccalaureate degree are offered also in the following fields, but these concentrations do not lead to teacher certification:

• Human performance (B.S.Ed.)
• Music education (non-teaching) (B.S.Ed.)
• Fitness management (B.S.Ed.)

A student enrolled in the College of Arts and Sciences may be admitted to a teacher education program and may complete, in addition to the requirements for an arts and sciences degree, programs for teacher certification in the following areas:

• Music education (B.M. program)
• Secondary/high-school education, with (a) a comprehensive major in mathematics or (b) majors in English language arts (comprehensive), French, German, and Spanish

A student enrolled in New College, a division of the College of Arts and Sciences, may be admitted to a teacher education program and may complete, in addition to requirements for a degree in that division, certain teaching programs. These programs must be arranged in advance of registration and approved by the appropriate area head in the College of Education. A student enrolled in the Graduate School may be admitted to one of the College of Education's alternative (nontraditional, fifth-year) certification programs in order to complete a master's degree and obtain initial licensure (Class A) in a broad range of teaching fields.
