HEALTH CARE MANAGEMENT PROGRAM

A student in the College of Arts and Sciences may obtain a bachelor of science degree with a major in health care management. The student will be provided with a background for developing skills in the management and administration of public and quasi-public health care institutions, as well as in the political, social, economic, and legal issues with which these public institutions deal. Students pursuing this program must see the program adviser in Clark Hall for departmental advising and registration. Requirements for this degree program are described as follows. A minimum of 12 hours at the 300 or 400 level must be earned on this campus.

Arts and Sciences Minor

Students must also complete the requirements of an approved minor in the College of Arts and Sciences. The hours in the minor are additional hours over and above required coursework in the major. Minors offered through the College of Communication and Information Sciences, the Culverhouse College of Commerce and Business Administration, the College of Engineering, the College of Human Environmental Sciences, and the School of Social Work do not fulfill this requirement.

Minimum number of hours required: At least 128

1A student must satisfactorily complete two of the required health care management (HCM) courses and a major portion of the administration and management courses before enrolling in HCM 474.

2One additional 3-hour writing course (W) is required; it may be either part of the minor program or an elective.
