COLLEGE OF ARTS AND SCIENCES

SUPPORT GROUPS

Society for the Fine Arts. The Society for the Fine Arts was formed in 1975 as a fine and performing arts support group in the College of Arts and Sciences. It was organized for the purposes of promoting and recognizing performance in the arts; creating a greater awareness of the arts in the state of Alabama and the Southeast; further developing the College of Arts and Sciences as the state's center for artistic excellence; and providing an opportunity for alumni and friends of the University to participate in shaping fine arts programs at the University.

SFA has awarded numerous scholarships to deserving students of art, dance, music, theatre, and creative writing. Other examples of the society's support include sponsorship of noted visiting artists and teaching grants for faculty projects.

Friends of the Sarah Moody Gallery of Art. The Friends of the Gallery was established within the Society for the Fine Arts in 1985 to provide support for the gallery. The friends act to enlarge the University's permanent art collection, enhance its annual exhibitions, and provide maintenance support for the permanent collection. For further information, call (205) 348-8538 or write The University of Alabama, Society for the Fine Arts, Box 870268, Tuscaloosa, AL 35487-0268.

Leadership Board. The Leadership Board of the College of Arts and Sciences is a volunteer organization that works for the advancement of the College. Its goals include increasing private support for the College's programs, cultivating alumni relations, and recruiting students. The board also has an advisory role in the College's academic activities.
